Opening Ceremonies

Tonight is it. It’s the night that I have been waiting on for many months. Tonight is the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics from Turin, Italy.

It would be an understatement to say that I was excited. I actually can’t wait for the pageantry and the parade of nations to start this evening.

However, the Opening Ceremonies are already marred by some. Athletes in the sports of skeleton and cross-country skiing have been suspended (for varying lengths of time) for [alleged] doping incidents. This is definitely an unfortunate way to start the Games, but hopefully is not an indication of how these Games will proceed.

I for one am very surprised that any athlete would even attempt doping at these Games above all others. Why, you may ask? Because athletes caught doping in Italy, under Italian law, can be imprisoned for doing so!

Even though these doping incidents will be in the back of many people's minds while watching the games, I do hope that everyone enjoys what is sure to be one of the best Winter Olympics on record. And stay tuned here for updates from me as the Games proceed.
