Kwan Out, Hughes In
In an interesting turn of events, Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan has withdrawn from competition. With a nagging groin injury still bothering her, Kwan announced this morning that should would not be able to compete for gold.
Replacing Kwan will be Emily Hughes. Hughes finished third at the United States Championships and is the younger sister of 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist Sarah Hughes. She joins Sasha Cohen and Kimmie Meissner in representing the United States.
It is unfortunate that Kwan will never realize her goal of earning an Olympic gold medal. I know I definitely wish her well and thank her for all she has done for the sport of figure skating.
